We mentioned before checking the flashing and seals around the chimneys, vents, and skylights, but flashing and seals aren’t the only things that can break down. If you have a brick chimney, look for loose bricks, cracked mortar, or other signs of deterioration. Adequate ventilation throughout the roof and attic is crucial, so you should clear the vents of debris regularly. If you have skylights, check for leaks around the seals and for cracks in the glass.
Look for Signs of Moisture Damage
Leaks have a way of appearing where you least expect them, and the signs of damage aren’t always at the source. Inspect your interior walls and ceilings for water stains or discoloration. If you find any signs of leaks, address them right away to avoid structural damage or mold growth.
Schedule a Professional Inspection
Although there are many things you can do yourself to identify issues with your roof, a professional inspection is a good idea. They also have the tools and equipment to safely get up on the roof and inspect the areas you can’t see from the ground.
